It's not an easy task to shake up a scene famous for the twee groups of the K Records catalog, but with Gun Outfit barreling through hundreds of shows in the late 2000's, they were key in the renewal of the loud and plaintive to the historically vibrant scene of Olympia, WA. Reviewers compared them to Sonic Youth, Wipers, Dino Jr - because, just like Gun Outfit, these bands combined the caterwaul of Black Flag with the twining harmonies of folk. However, Gun Outfit retained a vision original enough to appeal way beyond a mere re-hash of the late 80's SST playbook, and in Hard Coming Down they have created something more serene, bold, and confident than anything in their prior output.

Through the past 13 years Aviram Cohen has used varied music projects to explore different aspects of himself. He brought out his violence and aggression in the punk band The Bad Form. Sought out the absurd and stupid in Soiled Mattress and The Springs. And held up a mirror to himself and his surroundings in Silk Flowers. And now he's managed to meld all of these notions into Volunteers Park.

Regal Degal is a power trio consisting of Josh da Costa [Gemini] on guitars and vocals, Josiah Wolfson [Libra] on bass, and Jamen Whitelock [Virgo] on drums. Formed in Brooklyn in late 2009, the group recently relocated to Los Angeles. The group's sound pulls omnidirectionally from across the musical spectrum, drawing from post-punk, krautrock, 60's psychedelic/ freakbeat, 80's new wave and indie, German minimal house, and the music of Africa. The music could be described as hyper rhythm conscious, melodic, atmospheric, and kinetic, with one foot firmly in the past and an eye fixed towards the future. In the center resides Regal Degal, channeling and reinterpreting all individual and shared inspirations into a sound best referred to as deep rock.

SFV ACID is young Zane Reynolds from Reseda California. With his vinyl debut "NEW WEST COAST" released 2010 on PPM he showcased his talents for making beats, arranging, sequencing and frying up dance oriented original tunes. On SFV ACID's newest release he shows you where itcame from with "#2".

Although the mysterious Sissy Spacek existed in various forms from summer 1999 to their last known gig in Los Angeles, they are practically unknown in--let alone out of--California. Their recorded output is incredibly rare and highly priced and interviews or articles in the music press virtually non-existent. Tie that in with extreme sensory assault at live shows, links to radical ideologies, and a general aura of confusion and you have the ultimate cult group. SISSY SPACEK had their beginnings at CalArts in summer 1999 with their first demo--four grindcore songs which are featured on the Troubleman Unlimited-issued "Gore Jet" 7", since then hey have released a slew of records, much more noise oriented, CONTRETEMPS brings it back, the first record with a live drummer, you could say this was grindcore, power violence, noise music.. it really is just SISSY SPACEK

On his 5th 7" for PPM Eric commits to a gentle onslaught of traditional sounding rhythms, ran through the busted copy machine of sound that defineshis work. GET ALONG gets you going immediately with an infectious beat and a New Wave-ish, almost Nigerian Pop, scrambled, lost Prince demo vibe. While ZULU feeds the soft side of your soul quite nicely, tugging at your heart with a warped symphony and vocal line that shows his talent as a singer and composer. "Collage Culture: Examining the 21st Century's Identity Crisis" is a new work of nonfiction written by Aaron Rose, Mandy Kahn and designed by Brian Roettinger. This companion recording combines audio excerpts from the book's text with an original musical score by No Age, examining these questions and allowing the listener space to think. This is a limited record with beautiful and enticing sounds split in two separate channels for your listening pleasure. Brilliantly designed by Brian Roettinger who was nominated for a Grammy for his work on No Age's "Nouns"

Dunes are a mysteriously ethereal and minimal trio from Los Angeles. Appropriating pop and experimental music into a familiar swirl, whileretaining a fresh outlook and approach, Dunes inhabit a space of tweaking, twisting, imagining moments and emotions from the past, destined to end up as their future. Stephanie Chan, formerly of Austin Texas bands Finally Punk, and The Carrots plays guitar and sings in Dunes, she creates surreal and dreamy narratives with her lyrics and uniquely beautiful, powerful voice. Mark Greshowak plays barritone guitar and sometimes bass, he used to write songs and tour with seattle area band Talbot Tagora, now he and Stephanie weave their melodies back and forth, making lush tones for our eardums. Kate Hall, played drums in Mika Miko before holding down the rhythmic duties and also singing for Dunes. Having released a 12" EP on Mexican Summer, 2 7" EP's, one on Los Angeles label Teenage Teerdrops, the other on San Diego's Art Fag and a tape on Ooga Booga Dunes are primed to release a full length to the world.

Earn is Matthew Sullivan, known to some already as Privy Seals, his extremely harsh noise project, collaborator with underground ambient artist Sean McCann, owner of the cassette label Ekhein, one half of the group 1958-2009 and former member of the legendary Deep Jew. A prolific gentleman with an ear for blissful engulfing tones and radiance that go beyond ambient or shoe gaze.  His project Earn stands as a testament at his ability to use minimalism as an approach to guitar playing to find sounds, exude gentle brushes of color and embrace the emotional state of the player. 

Eric Copeland is a member of Black Dice from New York. His solo work under his own name exhibits an exciting and intensely original take on song structure, delivery and approach. Since 2007 Eric has recorded and released a hand full of LP's and singles and lately has been cranking out the tunes on 7"s via PPM. On his previous three 7" releases "Doo Doo Run b/w "Fundinkdeath", "Puerto Rican b/w "The Eyeball" and "Whorehouse Blues b/w "Guk & UFO's Over Vampire City", Eric has taken and warped pop song ideas and skewed them incredibly,crafting out some very killer tunes.

Let it be known that the recipe for a hard-knocking, non-fronting hardcore ep is as easy as pie. Add 50 years worth of pedigree via Brooks Headley's time in UOA, Born Against, (Young) Pioneers, and Wrangler Brutes, Dean Spunt's efforts in Wives and No Age, Cundo Bermudez's sentences in Nazti Skinz and Wrangler Brutes, and finally Michelle Suarez's terms in Mika Miko and Le Face, bake for 5 hours in L.A.'s MacArthur Park during 100 degree weather, and quickly press record on the tape machine. Stephen / Steven is the newest musical output from Brendan Fowler, formerly BARR. Stephen / Steven is pieces, moments cut up, thoughtsrevisited and new arrangements from previous BARR tracks. The Urxed is the solo output from Rob Barber of HIGH PLACES. On hisown and in his element he slams home the tracks on side 2 of this split.

A special release signifying PPM50 and Post Present Medium as a label for ten years. Wives were a punk band formed in Los Angeles in 2001,they recorded, performed and toured until 2005 when they disbanded. After their last US tour and and before their (first and last) UK/Europe tour in 2005 Dean Spunt (bass and vocals) and Randy Randall (guitar) recorded these 7 songs with new drummer Roy Tatum. These were the songs, if you saw them live, Wives were playing, working on and perfecting at the time on that final tour.

On their third LP "Prison Sweat" Total Abuse blast and sometimesalmost sludge through 7 tracks of great hardcore punk (with two tracks reaching over the 7 minute mark). Opening with an opus of blistering, seething, crunching noise then bursting into tracks that are as catchy and nauseous as their influences, This is Total Abuse at their best and most ferociously open. TA posses an honesty and anger missing from a lot of their contemporaries allowing them to dwell deep in your brain for a long while after you listen. First pressing is a limited run of 500 and the record includes a writing collaboration between Total Abuse and Chicago based Writer / Musician Peter Sotos, who's writings and ethos has influenced the TA project from its inception.

Chalk Circle existed in the Washington, DC metro area punk/hardcore scene between 1981 and 1983. They were the first all-female rock or punk band to ever record and perform in DC, and in January 2011 their recorded output will finally be available in one place: on the Reflection LP, released by both Mississippi Records and Post Present Medium. The 12 songs on this release are from compilations on Outside Records and WGNS, live shows, and unreleased recordings. It also comes with a 16-page booklet compiled by guitarist/vocalist Sharon Cheslow that tells the Chalk Circle story in its entirety for the first time. The booklet features photographs, press clippings, and extensive liner notes by renowned musician and producer Don Fleming, whose band Velvet Monkeys headlined Chalk Circle's first shows.

Reclaiming the San Fernando Valley as the hard nation of weirdo-ness, SFV Acid drops his first bit of vinyl genius on the world. Silk Flowers are a synth-driven music trio based in New York. Their songs balance parts of pop and noise with melodies that evoke emotion from the listener. Countering typical notions of electronic music as a purely recorded listening experience, Silk Flowers write their songs for live performance, creating a visceral dynamic event that fluctuates between gleeful dance music and rough-edged dissonance.

Those who clocked Abe Vigoda's transition from 2006's angular-punk debut Kid City to 2008's startling tropicali-punk Skeleton should know the LA quartet aren't ones for repeating themselves. To Skeleton's hot-hot-hot template, they now add glassy shards of 'cold wave' pop, with synthesisers, sequencers and altogether broodier beats. Scorching temperatures, icy cur­rents - Crush is a thermal column of vertiginous brilliance!

White Shit is the powerhouse musical styling's of Andy Coronado (Wrangler Brutes, Monorchid, Skull Kontrol, Nazti Skins) Jared Warren and Coady Willis (Big Business and The Melvins) and a guy named Tits. White Shit think in terms that are somewhat too mentally elevated for most to understand fully, but if you read between the lines it all comes together. Outfit's second LP, recorded at High Command in Olympia, Washington by Captain Trips Ballsington. The clean sounds and raw sounds on this record are a fantasy. The mental frontier of rock music, fifty years later. Influenced by The Byrds, Horses and Susan Sontag, Gun Outfit slam through and enter the sophomore years of recording and making music as a band. Honing their craft, Possession Sound is sometimes a more mellow listen than their previous efforts, and sometimes more raw in it's delivery entirely. A very exciting progression from a real band in every way.

Total Abuse are from Austin, Texas. Since their first show in November 2006 TA have been recording and playing a heavy onslaught of feedback drenched hardcore soundscapes, taking hints from the Dead C, Black Flag (Chavo and Rollins era), Void and Harry Pussy. Total Abuse's Roster includes; Rusty Kelley on vocals (who also makes harsh noise under the name Breathing Problem), Matt Lyons on drums, Ryan Foster on guitar, Dustin Pilkington on bass and as of August 2008 they added former Snobs guitarist, Duncan Knappen as second guitar. Members now live in New York, Oakland and Austin and get together as much as possible to record and destroy ears live.

John Wiese is an artist and composer from Los Angeles, California. His on-going projects include LHD and Sissy Spacek, with plenty of freelance work with many artists as diverse as Sunn O))), Wolf Eyes, Merzbow, Evan Parker, Smegma, Kevin Drumm, Cattle Decapitation, and C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core). He has toured extensively throughout the world, covering Europe, Scandinavia, and Australia as a member of Sunn O))), the UK as part of the Free Noise tour (a tentet including Evan Parker, C. Spencer Yeh, Yellow Swans, etc.), the United States alongside Wolf Eyes, and recently performed in the 52nd Venice Biennale with artist Nico Vascellari.

Consider "Circle Snare" a hard-wrought souvenir. Composed and realized in the midst of a comprehensive Scandinavian/European tour in 2008, John Wiese found himself tangled deep in dialogue with his instruments and ideas. Wiese increasingly scrutinized his native tongue and vocabulary, seeking new forms of grammar and cadence, as only extensive dives in unfamiliar waters can inspire. His given electronic anatomy of drum machine, microphones, tapes, and MSP folded out of their hard accustomed formations, breaking out into a more cogent and vital arsenal. "Circle Snare" is the accumulative result, a finely detailed and dimensional evolution of an already unique voice. The circle is a spiral from the side, and the greatest trap is standing still. CD version released on No Fun Productions in 2009, This vinyl version is limited to 500 copies.

Best Coast is Bethany Cosentino (ex ? Pocahaunted) with Bobb Bruno (Polar Goldie Cats). Leaving NY behind Bethany returns to Los Angeles with a different perspective on music and the world. She writes great pop songs and has a beautiful voice that sings hooks that are hard to get out of your head. Her aesthetic is semi lo-fi but you can hear the growth within. Best Coast is making headway in Los Angeles and is cramming bars left and right allover, see what all the fuss is about.

INFINITE BODY is KYLE PARKER, once know throughout the world as GATOR SURPRISE in his youthful days. Now a grown man he has cast aside his harsh outpouring and transformed it into a lush and bright planetary awakening. Drawing the harmony of the spheres into his brain and channeling it through his fingertips onto recorded medium INFINITE BODY causes sound to bloom where there once was only darkness!!!! Yes! This rules!!!! You might have witnessed such events live during INFINITE BODY tours with NO AGE, DAN DEACON, DEERHUNTER and PODESTRIAN DEPOSIT.

Quail Lungs is the alter ego of Portland resident Travis Bonilla. Quail Lungs makes songs for himself by himself on a 4 track recorder at his home. This debut 7" shows a mellow pop and lo fi quality to his song writing that is easily enjoyable. "Dumb Dadadum" is an acoustic scuzzy pop song with a driving keyboard melody and vocal line, it will definitely get stuck in your head and on your turntable. The B side "You can't believe in anything, you cant believe in nothing" starts out slow and droney and kicks in like a robotusin folk jammer.

White Shit is the mastermind of Andy Coronado (Monorchid, Skull Kontrol, Wrangler Brutes) on guitar and concepts, along with Jared Warren (Karp, Big Business, Melvins) on vocals and Cody Willis (Murder City Devils, Big Business, Melvins) on drums and TITS on bass. This 9 song "Mini LP" comes to you as a 12" and is an absolute hardcore crossover faster than sludge piece of work. White Shit don't want you too not think, they have a keen sense of design and politics that may seem shocking at first, but with a name like White Shit, you get what you pay for.

On their second full length "We Be Xuxa", Mika Miko expand on their remarkable song writing skills mixing great riffs with simple ideas, melody with speed while sending you into a mind melting frenzy.
