Mecca Normal: Malachi b/w Blue Sky and Branches
ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Mecca Normal is fully engaged on all fronts -- music, graphic novel, lecture, political art museum, films, posters, paintings, novels -- they're not some boring band trying to re-form to cash-in, because, quite frankly, they never bothered to cash-out... things go better with clout. As Mecca Normal, Jean Smith and David Lester have a 26 year history. It's all online somewhere. Got Google?Malachi Ritscher (1954-2006), American musician, free speech and anti-war activist who for many years made high quality recordings of other musicians (often jazz and experimental) performing live in Chicago. He would give a copy to the performers and sometimes these would become official releases. After the U.S. invaded Iraq, he became a vocal opponent of the war at demonstrations and was twice arrested. Like monks opposing the Vietnam war, his final act of protest culminated in an act of self-immolation.

Mecca Normal: Calico Kills the Cat
ALBUM DESCRIPTION
This one's got it all: love, murder, hate, frying pans, jealousy, prison, bullets, bonfires and a blue t.v. behind the iron curtain. Wordsmith Jean takes on the world while guitar man Dave rocks 'n' rolls it.

Mecca Normal: Dovetail
ALBUM DESCRIPTION
Their fourth album; captivating, graceful, and with their singular edge intact. After ten years, this album still sends shivers down my spine, their most cohesive and emotionally charged document.

Mecca Normal: Jarred Up

A mess of songs from singles and compilations dating from 1987 to 1992. A collection that reveals the awesome might of their thing

Mecca Normal: Flood Plain

Mecca Normal is Jean and Dave: warm, intense and insightful; Flood Plain is catchy and rockin', and still no unnecessary bass and drums.
