Calvin Johnson Creates Mixtape for The Believer

by chriswelz at 8:56 pm

‘Love Songs for Lamps’ is a compilation of cassette-only releases that will be featured in the July/August issue of The Believer. And guess who is the curator for this compilation? None other than our favorite K Record’s founder, Calvin Johnson! (Yes, that is the same Calvin Johnson from bands such as The Beat Happening, The Go Team, Dub Narcotic Sound System, and The Halo Benders.)

The cassette compilation in included free in The Believer’s July/August issue. And not only did Calvin compile this mix tape but he wrote the highly informative and amusing linear notes:

Cassettes are cuddly. They are Star Wars while CDs are Battlestar Galactica (MP3s, of course, are The Matrix). They come in colors; you can collect them and trade them. Hang them on your wall. Use them as Valentines.

Check out the whole scoop (and the rest of the linear notes) here or in the July/August issue of The Believer.
